POSITION SUMMARY

Working the3rd shift (10:45 PM - 7:15 AM the following day), theQC Physical & Micro Supervisor:

  • oversees laboratory technicians and inspectors on their respective shift(s).

  • works with operations and manufacturing support personnel to solve production problems and deal with quality control issues as they occur, making recommendations for immediate corrective action when necessary to ensure optimum product quality.

  • works with the Quality and R&D Manager to implement cGMP procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Coordinates all physical and microbial laboratory testing and inspection activities on the respective shift, including material disposition.

  • Monitors sample test turnaround times to ensure a timely disposition of products.

  • Conducts and documents investigations as necessary.

  • Implements quality and process improvement initiatives in conjunction with quality and operations personnel.

  • Develops, recommends, and implements systems, processes, activities to improve lab quality and inspection productivity on all shifts.

  • Ensures the availability of adequate materials and supplies necessary to conduct ongoing testing.

  • Ensures that equipment is maintained and serviced when necessary to support testing needs.

  • Performs laboratory testing and inspections as necessary.

  • Conducts cGMP and on-the-job training of QC personnel and operations personnel where applicable.

  • Assists with customer complaint investigations.

  • Conducts internal audits for cGMP compliance.

  • Complies with safety and GMP requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises physical laboratory technicians and inspectors on the shift.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors of Science from an accredited college, preferably in one of the life, earth, or food sciences and minimum of one year supervisory leadership experience or equivalent combination of a degree and related experience.

  • Experience in the dietary supplement, food, or pharmaceutical industry preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as product specifications, departmental instructions, MSDS, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization both internal and external.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, averages, ratios, proportions, and the metric system to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

General understanding of quality concepts involved in food manufacturing and the ability to relate these concepts to any problems that arise. Ability to learn quickly, operate independently, and to assume responsibility for new tasks is necessary. Strong computer and communication skills required. Competency in word processing and spreadsheet software required. Familiarity with the Oracle Applications Suite 11i/Oracle Process Management module desired. Must have excellent interpersonal, coaching and team-building skills.
