TIC is seeking a Carpenter Foreman
Position Summary: Direct and supervise the planning, lay-out and installation of forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts. Plan and coordinate the efforts of the leadmen and craftsmen under his/her supervision and motivate them to accomplish the work safely, correctly and efficiently. Work with or supervise other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
Plan, diagram and lay-out for carpenter's work.
Read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications, lay-out, installation and/or repair forms, rebar-templates and embeds in accordance with those plans and specifications.
Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.
Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.
Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility.
Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
Be able to perform all of the essential functions of craft workers under his/her supervision. Perform task planning to safely and efficiently carry out all aspects of that work assigned. Train/teach safety practices, policies and procedures related to an employee's assigned tasks. Gain a complete understanding of the scope of work and the related parts of the project. Develop a thorough understanding of the project plans, specifications and schedule as they relate to that portion of the work assigned. Conduct tool box meetings and communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans and schedules to the leadmen and crews. Plan and communicate with the warehouse, purchasing and supervisor to assure that an adequate supply of tools, materials and equipment are available. Ensure through personal inspections that correct construction procedures are followed and work is in compliance with the plans and specifications. Ensure that carpenters are qualified to perform their work. Review crew's timecards for correct hours and phase coding. Monitor and report quantities of work accomplished on a daily/weekly basis. Provide on-the-job training to those individuals under his/her supervision. Complete performance reviews of leadmen and craft workers. Have a basic understanding of the scheduling, material control and unit manhour performance management systems.
Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).
Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner.
Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
Be motivated and work productively.
Perform other job specific duties as requested by supervisor.
Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing essential job functions.
Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Education, Experience or Formal Training:
NCCER Certified Plus
Reinforcing Iron and Rebar
Must have working knowledge of auto-level and transit for accurate layout and verification of finished grads; fabrication and erection of forms with thorough knowledge of steel framed forms (i.e. Symons); fabrication, and placement of rebar including proper tying techniques; and placing, finishing and sealing concrete.
Must set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality and productivity for the members of his/her crew.
Experience in erection of all types of concrete structures.
In addition, must have all necessary tools (see Industrial Carpenter tool list).
Ability to work in conditions common to a construction site including but not limited to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, sun, cold, noise.
Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift.
Ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
