Vision Technologies Inc. Network Engineer II in Las Vegas, NV, Nevada

Job Summary: The Network Engineer II is responsible for planning, designing, implementing and maintaining a network architecture within the customer environment. The Network Engineer II will also implement, maintain, and support network systems on a day-to-day operational level. In addition, day-to-day duties will include establishing standards within the network infrastructure, documentation and resolving break-fixes or design issues. The successful candidate would work closely with other Vision Technologies and customer personnel within the Networking Services department to ensure that the customer WAN hand-off is functioning as designed.

Responsibilities and Duties: Principal responsibilities and duties, but not all-inclusive, include the following. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief to balance workloads.

Operational Duties

• Serve as Point of Contact for the customer Data Center network which includes the accountability for the availability, security and performance of the network

• Manage and administrate Local Area Network (LAN), Data Center, Wide Area Network (WAN) installation, configuration and ongoing field service

• Manage and administrate the application of firmware upgrades, network system monitoring and uplinks to ISP and customer WAN within a High Availability Network

• Ability to configure and manage dynamic routing protocols with a strong understanding of Policy Routing

• Manage Cisco based Firewalls in an HA (High Availability) Environment

• Configure Site-to-Site IPSEC VPN(s) and manage comms/routing across Wide Area Transports

• Manage and administrate on-premise and cloud Palo Alto firewalls, load balancers and customer application controllers

• Serve as customer point of contact with vendor provided network managed services

• Operate within customer departmental Incident, Change and Work Management systems

• Manage and administrate an Azure Cloud Network within an Express Route circuit interconnect

Planning and Development Duties

• Performs complex network management design and integration

• Plans, forecasts, implements, and identifies resource and bandwidth requirements for network devices and connections

• Participates in design reviews with customer application systems leadership on supported customer systems

• Participates in Quality of Service (QOS) reviews of IT systems install by junior technicians

• Provides mentoring on projects for voice, video, and data systems, including but not limited to LANs, and WLANs; Video over IP and converged networks

• Participates in the selection of hardware, software, and services to meet customer departmental specifications and requirements

• Participates and provides consultation on scope and specification requirements for bids and contracts

• Conducts site surveys and on-site assessments and prepares schematic diagrams for recommended and efficient installations

• Develop and maintains network documentation

• Assists in developing architectures and planning for enterprise-wide tactical and strategic requirements, systems definition, and feasibility determination within a complex system environment

• Assists in developing and implementing a multi-system capacity plan

• Plans and oversees the implementation of system installations and ensures network connectivity

• Serve as customer point of contact with networking professional services engagements

• Occasional travel throughout the local Las Vegas area

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

• Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in math, computer science, information systems, electrical engineering, or a related field.

• Qualifying experience in addition to that listed above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Years of Experience:

• At least 8 years of journey level experience installing, designing, configuring and/or maintaining computer data, telecommunications, or converged systems

• Experience or knowledge of VMWare, MS Azure, Wireshark/ Packet Analysis, Alien Vault are desirable

• A strong knowledge of Spanning Tree

• Knowledge and experience with BGP and OSPF routing protocols is required

• Experience with Ruckus/Commscope and legacy Brocade routers is required

• Experience with a major enterprise network switching vendor product line is required. Ruckus/CommScope or Cisco are preferred

• Experience with PaaS mainframe hosting provider to manage MPLS circuits connecting remote mainframe and interconnected VPN backup connection considered a plus

• Experience with Linux Servers and Perl Scripting are desirable

Security Clearance:

• A valid Nevada Driver License

• Must pass a criminal background investigation

Certifications:

• Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) - preferred

• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – required

• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Wireless, CCNA (Voice)

• •Microsoft MCSE, Linux+, RHCE, or LPI certifications – preferred

• Maintain effective relationships with coworkers, enterprise team members, and representatives of manufacturers and other organizations

• Plan, organize, coordinate and direct complex network systems development projects

• Supervise and train junior networking technical staff

• Provide technical expertise and information regarding enterprise network technology, and

• industry best practices and policies

• Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures

• Analyze complex situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action

• Work independently with little direction to meet schedules and timelines

• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with customer staff and vendors

Work Conditions

• Typically, 40-45-hour work week, that could spike during critical changes or outages

• Daily work schedule is determined by customer but is primarily based around normal business hours

• Must be able to lift devices weighing roughly 20-50 lbs

• Vision Technologies will provide a laptop to fulfill daily work duties
