Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform general painting, finishing, coating and small sheetrock repair on Casino and Hotel facilities. Perform responsibilities in accordance with all PlayLV's Company standards, policies, and procedures.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Polish final coats to specified finishes.

  • Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors order to determine work requirements

  • Remove door knobs, lamps, and electrical switch covers prior to painting.

  • Erect scaffolding and set up ladders, to work above ground level.

  • Select and purchase tools and finishes for surfaces to be covered, considering durability, ease of handling, and methods of application.

  • Basic maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment as applicable to the trades such as the repacking of paint sprayer pumps and guns

  • Cut stencils, and brush and spray lettering and decorations on surfaces.

  • Use special finishing techniques such as sponging, ragging, layering, or faux finishing.

  • Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings, bridges, and/or other structures, using brushes, spray guns, or rollers.

  • Wash and treat surfaces with oil, turpentine, mildew remover, or other preparations, and sand rough spots to ensure that finishes adhere properly

  • Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, or using water and/or abrasive blasting.

  • Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats.

  • Waterproof buildings, using water proofers and caulking.

  • Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surface measurements and/or work orders.

  • Smooth surfaces, using via chemical or mechanical means of solvents, sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, and/or sanding machines.

  • Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.

  • Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.

  • Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum three years professional painting experience

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, in both written and oral forms.

  • Knowledge of safety procedures for working on ladders, scaffolds and lifts.

  • Must be able to calculate scaffold loads, area load, live loads, concentrated loads, and cantilevered loads.

  • Must be able to safely operate and maintain all paint equipment.

  • Must be able to properly use, care, and maintenance for/or equipment used in painting trade.

  • Must be able to use hand and power tools safely.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in a similar resort setting.

  • OSHA 10 or 30 card greatly preferred.

  • Bi-lingual.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all business contacts.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, in both oral and written forms.

  • Ability to take direction.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment; able to fulfill short deadlines

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Requires normal, corrective vision range, the ability to see color and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols

  • Tasks performed from non-sitting position.

  • Work entails trained chemical usage.

  • Team members will be required to stand, walk, lift, reach, push, pull and grasp in full range as is typical for the position.

Work Conditions:

Work is typically in an area, which may be unusually hot, cold, noisy, and may contain second hand smoke. Work may be performed in small areas with a 3 ft. wide access. Outdoor work may be required with exposure to the extreme weather conditions typical in the Las Vegas valley. These tasks include the maintenance and care of assigned area. Constant contact with fellow Team Members and Guests.

  • Ability to be flexible for special projects as needed
