The Program Support Assistant (OA) uses office automation systems and various software packages to accomplish work. Assignments include text editing, file creation, maintenance and retrieval, use of message, calendar, and suspense systems, and use of other specialized tools in support of specific functions.,

This program is located under the guidance of the office of Chief of Social work at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System's main Medical Center. in North Las Vegas, NV.

Responsibilities

Duties of the position will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Use of Microsoft office software to prepare correspondence, policies, meeting minutes, spreadsheets, graphs, maintains databases and prepares program reports as per established guidelines and police.
  • Creates and maintains a database of all combat veterans enrolled, eligibility status, service connection status and all other pertinent information and is able to compose charts and reports as requested using this information.
  • Ensure timeliness of suspense items, tracks internal reviews, quality measures, and efficiency of the program.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports needed by the Program Manager for presentation to Executive Leadership, councils, and committees.
  • Maintains files in accordance with RCS-10-1. Maintains a variety of files for administrative and professional activities including VA Central Office (VACO) directives, local directives and policies, VACO circulars, administrative and policy manuals, reports, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, Government Accounting Office nad DoD communications.
  • collects, compiles, tracks and analyzes statistical information from resources such as VSSC, VistA, Department of Defense, VA and VISN 21 to meet program goals and guidelines.
  • Uses Production VistA Scheduling GUI to accurately make clinical appointments for the program supported. Works productively and collaboratively with Eligibility, assisting veterans in the enrollment process.
  • Prepares, executes, and tracks program specific information, such as Freedom of Information Act requests, congressional inquiries, grants, cooperative agreements, and national program office requests/reports.
  • Works with clinical care lines, assisting veterans with primary care assignments and clinic appointments.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/29/2018.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note:Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: * Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication; Performs typing and office automation at or above the established minimum proficiency level; Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences; Performs work related to the acquisition and/or development of program information and resource materials/personnel to support the policy development and/or technical activities of an organization; Serves as the program's liaison to the purchasing/procurement office to arrange for, monitor and secure equipment, services, and products; and Responsible for timekeeping for the Social Work service line. OR, * Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable at the GS-6 level. However, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements:The work is primarily sedentary. A minimum amount of walking, standing, bending and carrying items is required. No special physical qualifications are required.
