JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.
JOB SUMMARY -- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
Perform tasks necessary to develop, issue, and update weather forecasts, warnings, advisories, and watches. Must make timely decisions and select a course of action under high stress conditions associated with severe weather and emergency situations. Coordinate with aircrews, air traffic control, and various base agencies to ensure safe operation of aircraft. Apply physical and meteorological factors in accessing the weather impact for specific locations to provide assistance to senior staff personnel in making go/no go weather decisions. Position will require travel.
Prior observation certification with the Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Aviation Administration, or National Weather Service, including four years' experience in observing, taking, recording, and disseminating surface weather observations using Meteorological Aviation Routine Weather Report (METAR) code
Prior forecaster certification with the Department of Defense (DoD) or National Weather Service, including four years' experience in aviation forecasting
Must have completed a Department of Defense (DOD) formal training program for weather observing AND forecasting or equivalent National Weather Service program. Must provide proof of completion
Must have at least 2 years of experience with taking, recording, and dissemination of surface weather observations.
Must have good verbal and written skills and be proficient with computer systems/software to include MS Word and Excel
Must be able to work duty days/weeks in excess of eight hours/40 hours, shift work, overnight stays at the work location, and be subject to recall to support unscheduled weather support requirements.
Performs Meteorological Weather Watch, taking, evaluating, recording, encoding, and disseminating surface weather observations
Operates the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS)
Monitor and interpret radar and satellite imagery
Issues weather warnings, watches, and advisories
Operate PMSV radio
Receives and disseminates PIREPs
Provides DD-175-1, canned route, and over-the-counter briefings
Writes and Issues Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts
Analyze climatic regimes, geography, terrain, and weather system characteristics
Provide climatological data for numerous locations when required
Any requirements defined in an additional duty delegation letter to ensure operation of the weather station
Candidates with a current TS/SSBI Clearance
Candidates holding a Common Access Card (CAC)
Experience with southwestern weather patterns
Experience with GR Level 2/3 Analyst Radar Software
Experience with DigiCORA Rawinsonde MW41 Set.
REQUIREMENTS -- EDUCATIONS, TECHNICAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or Associate's degree in Applied Science: Weather Technology, and five years of experience in operational meteorology, or graduation from equivalent formal academic training and five years of experience in operational meteorology. Knowledge of meteorological methods, techniques, and practices, including weather observing, forecasting, communications, meteorological equipment and support procedures. Possess skill in using various computer applications and software. Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, adjust, and verify atmospheric or other meteorological data to confirm and improve its accuracy and effectiveness. Must have good verbal and written skills. Must be able to work duty days in excess of eight hours, shift work, overnight stays, and be subject to recall to support unscheduled weather support requirements. Position will require travel.
Work is primarily sedentary in an office/lab environment; however, some walking, stooping, bending, climbing stairs and stretching. Occasionally, may be required to handle helium tanks weighting approximately 50 pounds (anything heavier requires two or more people or mechanical assistance). Expect:
Sitting - Continuous 1 to 10 hours per shift
Stand - Frequent .15 to 6 hours per shift
Lift/Carry - Occasionally 0-50 lbs.
Walk - Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shift
Drive -- Occasionally .10 to 5 hours
Reach Above - Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shift
Wor k Environment
The selected candidate will work solo and with others in an office type atmosphere. Meals are occasionally taken in conjunction with the shift and candidates will have access to a refrigerator, microwave, and limited vending machines. The workload will vary and may be stressful at times when bad weather is present. The candidate can expect irregular work hours to consist of days, evenings, and weekends. Due to the nature of the position, the candidate can expect to be exposed to the weather elements on a regular basis. The schedule is determined by the job requirements and the Lead Weather Manager.
