Grounds Maintenance Workers perform landscape, garden and greenhouse duties such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding and snow and ice prevention and removal; and operate hand and power tools, power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts and hoists.-
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Department of Administration, State Public Works Division, Buildings and Grounds section is recruiting for a Grounds Maintenance Worker 5 position. This position performs duties in Carson City and Reno area and reports to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor 1. The incumbent must have experience with all aspects of irrigation including system installation, system maintenance, and system repair.
This position is responsible for irrigation maintenance at Buildings and Grounds properties. Duties include irrigation maintenance and grounds maintenance, which includes mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, pest control, sprinkler repair and maintenance, and snow removal. This requires 24-hour on call duty for snow and ice removal from parking lots and walkways during the winter months in order to keep state employees and the public safe from snow and ice hazards. This position also provides extra services for office moves and special events for State agencies. This essential position is part of the Emergency Response Team and must respond to all emergency situations, such as snow fall, flooding and after hours call out situations. The incumbent must have a valid driver's license, be insurable through the State and maintain both as a requirement of continuous employment for this position. A criminal history check and fingerprinting are required for this position and the person offered employment will be required to pay for these items. Incumbent must be willing and able to work with inmate labor. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Three years of grounds maintenance experience, one year of which was installing, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems and related equipment; OR one year of experience as a Grounds Maintenance Worker IV in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position is subject to being on stand by and/or call back
Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
This position requires supervising and working with inmate workers.

Must be able to work a Flexible/Rotating Shifts, Nights/Weekends/Holidays and Standby/call back.
