  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related field or equivalent training and experience and at least 5 years’ of relevant experience.

  • Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical documents.

  • Able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities in the most efficient manner and meet required deadlines.

  • Experience in Instructional Design or training development preferred.

  • Experience reviewing and editing expansive documents with flexible designs.

  • Knowledge of federal regulations, Section 508, NFPA 472, DOE/DHS Orders, and other guidance documents for training and instruction, specifically those impacting first responders, nuclear activities and facilities

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to manage multiple review projects, frequent interruptions, and time constraints.

  • Verifiable computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Experience conforming training materials to meet Section 508 Accessibility requirements preferred.

  • Verifiable training and experience working in Adobe FrameMaker®.

  • Effective oral and writing skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Certified as a Section 508 Compliance Trusted Tester preferred.

Serve as a Counterterrorism Operations Support (CTOS) Center for Radiological/Nuclear Training (CRNT) Senior Technical Writer, located at the Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS) office in North Las Vegas, NV. The CTOS mission is training our Nation’s First Responders to effectively prevent or respond to the use of radiological/nuclear Weapons of Mass Destruction. Training is performance-based and includes classroom, hands-on, web-based, and field exercise training, conducted at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and at venues across the country. Target training audience includes local, State, and Tribal personnel in the following areas: law enforcement, emergency medical services, emergency management, fire service, hazardous materials, public works, governmental administrative, public safety communications, health care, public health, and other skilled support personnel that provide immediate support services during prevention, response, and recovery operations. Responsibilities include working independently and with CTOS Instructional Designers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to write, edit, and review course training materials for submittal to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for course certification.

  • Work with SMEs and Instructional Systems Designers (ISDs) to streamline project submissions and maintain continuity across projects.

  • Develop templates, styles, and formats for course development – to include incorporating Section 508 compliance.

  • Follow guidelines established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Training and Education Division (NTED) for document compliance.

  • Function as a Trusted Tester for CTOS to ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility.

  • Work in conjunction with other Technical Writing staff to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks.

  • Meet both internal and external contract deliverables.

  • Assist with records management of templates and finalized documents.

  • Support and track internal submissions and approvals of CTOS course documents and other artifacts.

  • Participate in and embrace MSTS environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives.
