A Driveshaft Engineer for Dorman Products implements and coordinates engineering projects that will support the development and improvement of driveshafts and driveline components, as directed by the Engineering Services Manager. Additional responsibilities include the measurement, evaluation and documentation of product characteristics with respect to function, reliability, quality, and design for manufacture.

Primary Duties

  • Work with product managers to plan and develop new product ideas.

  • Review product specifications and evaluate data for product feasibility.

  • Produce product documentation that sufficiently identifies product dimensional and performance requirements

  • Communicate product requirements to 3rd party vendors and evaluate parts for compliance

  • Direct, coordinate, or fabricate prototype product sample builds.

  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional, reliability and quality requirements.

  • Confer with product team to prepare and implement design modifications.

  • Interpret process certifications and flow charts to identify process weaknesses and recommend appropriate corrective actions.

  • Evaluate and summarize engineering information for marketing product presentations.

  • Analyze and review defective parts returned under warranty and determine root cause of failure

  • Implementation of corrective action

  • Use Solidworks engineering and design software to complete engineering and design tasks, with the ability to assist and counsel other team members.

  • Occasional travel

  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years experience with a technical degree (BS) in product engineering

  • Automotive driveline design knowledge

  • Experience analyzing product designs using DFMEA

  • Thorough knowledge of GD&T drafting techniques

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Access

  • Understanding of manufacturing capabilities; i.e. machining, stamping, casting, injection molding, electronics assembly.

  • Experience in cross-functional team

  • Basic knowledge of automotive and vehicle hardware, especially with regard to drivetrain design
