Position PurposeThe Quality Coordinator_Lab incumbent performs, facilitates and provides structure to ensure evidence based quality improvement activities for his/her assigned division are being implemented. The position is responsible for ensuring that the Quality Improvement program(s) is designed to support multidisciplinary team initiatives. The position will ensure that quality improvement activities are directed toward analysis of data, with a focus on improvement of process or outcome.

The Quality Coordinator_Lab is responsible for operational and technical oversight for all Point of Care Testing (POCT) for pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical procedures in the specific POCT Laboratory.

The Quality CoordinatorLab has the technical lab expertise pertaining to Medical Assistant and Nursing Staff, reviews procedures updates, evaluates work processes, and assists in meeting accreditation/compliance standards. The Quality CoordinatorLab is accountable for maintaining operational quality, consistency of reporting, and continuous monitoring of analytical POCT systems. The Quality Coordinator monitors quality control procedures, properly identified specimens, and determines proper equipment functionality.

The incumbent must demonstrate outstanding knowledge in multiple POCT disciplines listed below. They must maintain subject matter expertise and demonstrate a strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems as they arise.

Department Specific Qualifications:

  • Participate in a Renown Lab and Infection Control Committees* Serve as a preceptor to new employees* Participate in CLIA and State of Nevada inspection planning and preparation.* Participation in Every Day Lean or Transformational Health Care initiatives* Research and develop new test methods* POCT regulatory oversight focusing on two areas: training and competency of the personnel doing the testing; and verification of strict adherence to the manufacturer-specified procedure for each test

In addition, must fulfill one of the following competencies to qualify:

  • Point of Care* Quality

This position requires collaboration with departmental leadership and providers. The role monitors compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies.Nature and ScopeThe Quality Coordinator audits patient charts and implements surveillance activities to ensure all quality and regulatory standards are being met. Analyzes data collected and makes recommendations for process improvements. Assists in the education of new policies and procedures designed to enhance quality care and minimize patient, visitor, and employee risk.

The incumbent must be knowledgeable of and observe all safety requirements in a POCT laboratory setting. Comprehensive knowledge must be maintained for all procedures that are required to be performed. Competency in work related skills must be demonstrated annually.

The incumbent ensures in clinic lab results are reported in EPIC and keeps RMG leadership and staff informed to assist in and expedite patient care. Notifies appropriate personnel when a POCT instrument is out of service or due for maintenance and upgrades.
