Grand Sierra Resort and Casino Special Response Team - K9 Officer/Armed in Reno, Nevada
The K9 Handler will utilize their knowledge and expertise in the training and handling of a certified explosive detection K9 partner to conduct property sweeps to locate suspicious packages or objects that may contain explosive material to ensure a safe environment and minimize potential liability for employees and guests of Grand Sierra Resort. The K9 Handler will assist and liaise effectively with Grand Sierra Resort Security personnel, law enforcement agencies and local partners as requested and will perform all duties in accordance with Grand Sierra Resort policies and procedures, and within the realm of the Grand Sierra Resort mission statement.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *include the following.
The K9 Handler will be responsible for ensuring the safety of employees, guests, company assets and property by utilizing a trained and certified explosive detection K9 partner to locate suspicious packages or objects that may contain explosive material. Specific responsibilities and duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
The K9 Handler will train and certify with explosive detection trained canine.
The K9 Handler will utilize canine as directed to protect life and property of Grand Sierra Resort and in support of designated operations.
The K9 Handler will search vehicles, packages, mail, containers, rooms, backpacks, buildings, areas, or other objects as directed that could contain explosive materials.
The K9 Handler will maintain the canine’s proficiency in explosives detection through routine training and certification.
The K9 Handler will maintain the day-to-day health and welfare of assigned detection dogs, to include maintaining diet, ensuring adequate water throughout the day, and daily health checks and grooming.
The K9 Handler will maintain all assigned canine related equipment.
The K9 Handler will conduct daily kennel care as directed for the assigned dogs.
The K9 Handler will perform basic canine emergency first-aid as needed.
The K9 Handler will provide excellent guest service to guests and employees.
The K9 Handler will act as a First Responder in emergency situations.
The K9 Handler will conduct specialty training on, but not limited to CPR/AED, etc.
The K9 Handler will perform all other job related duties as requested in accordance with Grand Sierra Resort policies and procedures, and within the realm of the Grand Sierra Resort mission statement.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a track record of performing each essential responsibility satisfactorily . The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Prior experience preferred in law enforcement, military or private security.
Ability to pass a company approved canine certification course within the first 90 days of employment.
Maintain annual K9 certifications.
Must possess interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.
Must be able to work varied shifts, be available for incident/emergency response duty, standby duty, and client demonstrations, which may include weekends, holidays, nights and overnights.
Must be approved by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to handle explosive material.
A working knowledge in the area of investigations, possess investigative and analytical skills.
Set an example and be a role model / leader for all Security personnel through observance of all departmental policies and procedures.

High school diploma or equivalent.
Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Former military with combat MOS/and/or/tactical law enforcement experience required
Must be 21 years of age.
Ability to pass rigorous agility test in prescribed period of time.
Complete and pass a TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) course of the company’s choosing.
Must participate in and pass a psychological evaluation from a provider of company’s choosing.
Other Qualifications and Requirements:
K9 Handler must be flexible to work all shifts including holidays, nights, weekend hours and overtime as business needs dictate.
K9 Handler must be able to kennel the K9 at own residence.
K9 Handler’s personal residence must have suitable accommodations for the K9 (inside and outside the house) to include a 6’ fenced backyard and NO other conflict with any personal pets.
The K9 is the property of the Grand Sierra Resort and the K9 Handler must be responsible for the day to day care of the K9 to include but not limited to boarding, feeding, walking and exercising.

Must maintain annual certification in explosive canine detection handling.
Must be able to obtain and possess a Nevada Gaming License
Must have a current and valid Nevada Driver’s License and clean driving record
Must be CPR certified
Must be able to respond calmly in crisis and stressful situations, and be able to make rational decisions when handling guest and employee issues.
Must be able to physically restrain individuals when condition of arrest exists.
Must be able to work and stand inside and outside in various weather elements.
Must be able to work independently.
Must be able to stoop, bend, jump, twist, crouch, grip, carry heavy loads and maneuver quickly on level surfaces, as well as, up and down stairs.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds. Must be able to push or pull up to 150 pounds.
Must be able to tolerate areas containing second hand smoke, high noise levels, bright lights and dust.
